Kundan holds its stones in a bed of gold-coloured metal rather than in claws, so the setting itself becomes part of the design. On these jhumkas that means a fully paved top - round, oval, teardrop, lotus, chakra or sunburst - above a domed jhumki closed with a pearl fringe.

What is the difference between Kundan and Polki?

Are jhumkas heavy on the ears?
These are built hollow rather than solid, and the open-spoke designs are lighter again at the same visible size. A plastic disc back behind the earlobe takes the remaining weight off for a long function.
Are the pearls real?
Shell and resin pearls, matched for size and lustre. Real pearls at this scale would multiply the price several times over and would not survive being packed and travelled with the way an occasion earring is.
Will these irritate sensitive ears?
The alloy is lead free and nickel free, and nickel is what causes most reactions to fashion jewellery. We will not promise nobody reacts, though. If your ears are very sensitive, wear a new pair for a short first outing before a full-day function.
