Griha Pravesh Jewellery: Dressing for a House Warming Puja
Griha pravesh is a daytime puja in a house that is usually still half-empty, and if it is your house you will spend the whole of it moving - greeting people, carrying things, kneeling at the havan. It is one of the few occasions where practicality genuinely should lead.
Daytime, and what that means
Unlike Diwali, this happens in natural light, often with doors and windows open. That flips the lighting rule: cast metal outperforms stones. Temple work in matte antique gold reads as depth in daylight, while heavily stoned pieces flare and lose detail.
Matte finish is the right call here for a second reason too - it hides handling, and you will be handling everything.
If you are the host
You are moving all day. Choose accordingly:
- A choker or a short collar. Nothing that swings while you are bending at the havan or carrying a tray.
- Small to mid jhumkas. They will be knocked by a dupatta a dozen times.
- Nothing on the wrists that rattles near a puja thali.
- Skip the long haram entirely. It is the single most impractical piece for this occasion.
If you are a guest

Griha pravesh usually involves a havan, which means sitting near a fire for an extended period in Indian weather.
